After retirement from the Sheriff’s Office I was rehired in a civilian position (title only) where in addition to continuing to do most of the below listed duties (Internal Affairs Investigations and Background Investigations) I validated criminal & child support warrants as well as setup new warrant files.
September 4, 2001 to August 31, 2005 - Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office - Sheriff’ Officer Captain
Upon my promotion I took over as commander of the civil court division; comprised of (approx.) 60 plus officers. This unit was responsible for court security, judicial security, inmate transportation to and from the county jail, inmate security for inmates who were hospitalized or off site from the county jail, pickup and transportation of inmates who were incarcerated in other jurisdictions and returning them to the county jail. I was reassigned in November of 2003 to Internal Affairs where my duties included Internal Investigations, background investigations, working with building security setting up and monitoring building access cards and monitoring video surveillance as well as other internal investigations. In addition to background investigations I was also the agency liaison for officers in the Police Academy. I still maintained the agency website and continued to assist with various databases in use by the agency
December 5, 1991 to September 3, 2001 - Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office - Sheriff’s Officer Lieutenant
All of the same duties as Sergeant until May 7, 1995 when I became the Unit Commander of the Legal Services Section – supervise 6 officers, this unit was responsible for the service and enforcement of various court orders, including but not limited to; summonses & complaints, writs, performing inventories, seizing property, service and enforcement of domestic violence complaints (including executing weapons search warrants), custody orders, etc. Prepare arrest and investigation reports as required. Other law enforcement functions as required. Photograph with digital camera items inventoried in various seizures. During my tenure as commander this was the number one legal services unit in the state for several years running.
Agency Computer Liaison – responsible for routine maintenance of various desktop computers and accessories, monitor and update Fugitive Warrant database (this is a Microsoft access database which I configured, monitor and continued to update to meet the needs of the fugitive Warrant Squad until 2005), speak to various groups about child safety on-line, internet crime and fraud, consult with other agencies regarding computer crime, provide computer training to other members of the agency as needed. Design, update and maintain Sheriff’s Office website, Monitor, maintain and update civil process section database, Monitor, maintain and update Sheriff’s Sale Database
Accident Investigator (Employee workers compensation cases) – investigate all employee accidents (physical injuries, vehicle and property damage), forward reports with recommendations to Office of Risk Management.
Please Note: In 2001 all duties involving computers with the exception of those dealing with the internet were taken over by the InfoTechnology Department of the County of Atlantic.

Administrative Officer – Responsible for completing and forwarding all administrative paperwork (both NJDOP and County), maintaining and updating and maintaining personnel files, assisting in preparing agency budget, created first agency database of employee information, setup up initial Sheriff Sale Database, prepared and issued employee ID cards, assisted in writing agency rules & regulations, served as relief supervisor for various units when other supervisors were on leave. Perform confidential assignments for the Sheriff as directed.

Assorted duties including courthouse security (assisted in the first courthouse security audit), judicial security, investigation of various infractions that occurred in the county courthouse including but not limited to, theft, drug infractions, terroristic threats, weapons offenses, disorderly conduct, etc. Transportation of inmates, security for inmates outside of the jail proper, preparation of arrest and investigation reports, assorted crowd control assignments, assisted in drug raids.
